The preceptor had this to say about Abigail:
TruValu Drugs of Sanford (CIPPE Rotation)
“Abigail was able to hit the ground running during her first week of her community IPPE rotation. Learning a new pharmacy software seemed second nature to her. By her second week, she was capable of performing almost any task without assistance. She was also able to learn the processes and excel in providing clinical services to the patients including MTM, medication reconciliation, immunizations, etc.“
What was your favorite part of this rotation?
One of the highlights of this rotation was gaining insights from my preceptor regarding the distinctions between retail and independent community pharmacy. Having previously worked at Walgreens pharmacy, I enjoyed discovering the subtleties of independent pharmacy that were new to me. I had the opportunity to collaborate closely with my preceptor and other staff members, who provided valuable perspectives on their patient demographics, the unique needs of the community, and the prevalent conditions and medications they manage on a daily basis.
What advice do you have for pharmacy students preparing for rotations?
I encourage students embarking on their CIPPE experience to maintain an open mind and be prepared to explore various facets of pharmacy that they might not have previously considered. There is always new knowledge to acquire, and our preceptors serve as excellent sources of information that can be accessed in a personalized, one-on-one setting.
What are your plans after graduation?
Currently, my primary focus is on community pharmacy, where I have gained extensive experience and developed a positive outlook towards various roles within this sector. Nevertheless, I remain open to exploring new opportunities in other areas of pharmacy, including hospital and academic settings. I plan to utilize my APPE rotations in the upcoming years to identify the most suitable path for my career.
What is a fun fact about you?
I have had a passion for cheerleading for as long as I can remember, starting from middle school and continuing through high school. In my freshman year, during a pep rally, I was coming down from a stunt and somehow broke my collarbone without even touching the ground. The doctors called it a freak accident and couldn’t really explain how it happened. But that didn’t hold me back! I kept chasing my passion and continued cheerleading at the University of South Florida during college.
