Andre Zibner

The preceptor had this to say about Andre:

Hospital Practice

Very professional. Well researched. A team player. Always takes an assignment with eagerness and enthusiasm. Has such a need to grow in his knowledge base. Was very attentive during other students/residents topic discussions and would answer questions even if not addressed to him. Would work with numerous other preceptors if an interesting topic or patient case arose.

What was your favorite part of this rotation?

My favorite part of this rotation was the complete variety of experiences I was able to be a part of during this rotation. As a part of my block at UF Health Spanish Plaines, my preceptor made sure to tailor my hospital practice rotation to my interests and aspirations. I was able to take on the role of a pharmacist, completing clinical vancomycin and warfarin consults as well as customize TPN orders and optimize doses for patient’s on the floor. I developed relationships with my future preceptors as I enjoyed taking part in internal medicine and infectious disease topic discussions weekly. My preceptor knew that I have a great interest in emergency medicine and critical care and allowed me to work alongside the ED and ICU pharmacists. At the end of the rotation I was able to give a final presentation on the management of bipolar disorder to the pharmacy department. These experiences have allowed me to feel completely comfortable and confident during my block!

What advice do you have for pharmacy students preparing for rotations?

If I were to give any advice to pharmacy students preparing for rotations it would be to always give 100% of yourself into everything you do and to always be open to new experiences. Whether it be studying for exams, shadowing clinical pharmacists or other healthcare professionals or giving a presentation, you will never let yourself down if you give it your all. People will take note of your determination and passion if you always put your best foot forward. APPE rotations are truly the conglomeration of everything you’ve learned throughout your college career and you will realize how much you know. Say yes to new experiences, ask to shadow pharmacists in fields you haven’t explored and take on new projects that will force you to grow! The more effort you put into your didactic curriculum the more you will excel when it comes to practical experiences.

What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation I plan to pursue a residency in emergency medicine or critical care. My advanced practice rotations have truly solidified for me that the acute care setting and caring for critical patients is where my heart lies. I believe that as a BCEMP or BCCCP, I will have the greatest impact on patient outcomes and make life-saving interventions. My hope is that as a resident and clinician I will be able to continue advocating for our profession and guide the next generation of pharmacy professionals.

What is a fun fact about you?

I have a peacock named Sanibel who has been with me throughout high school, undergrad and pharmacy school!
