The preceptor had this to say about Anthony:

Academic/Experiential Education

“Anthony was an exemplar student. He stepped into the role of an academic student willing to do whatever was asked and take on any challenge. As a result he has a manuscript submitted for publication, an article in the Preceptor newsletter, an infographic to used in the national space, and all this in only 6 weeks. He is amazing!”

What was your favorite part of this rotation?

I enjoyed the ability to work with various College of Pharmacy faculty/staff on their respective projects. Our meetings gave insight into what occurs on the backend of academia and experiential education such as rotation development and appraisal, course development, and research among other topics. The rotation was very goal oriented with clear objectives that were often self paced to suit my needs or project demands. I also loved the opportunity to collaborate with other students as we would round with a Trauma ICU team weekly and have group discussions on relevant topics in critical care.

What advice do you have for pharmacy students preparing for rotations?

I would advise rotation students to enter each experience with an open mind. I was unsure of what to expect initially as my rotation site was disconnected from the main campuses. Despite this, my involvement during the rotation was highly valued and I gained transferable skills such as literature evaluation and project management, which prove valuable regardless of your career path in pharmacy. Additionally, I was able to submit a manuscript for publication, which is not something I ever thought I would achieve in such a short time. In summary, always keep an open mind on rotations! Contrary to popular belief, a rotation that you may not be interested in or had unknown expectations for could prove to be valuable for your future!

What are your plans after graduation?

Prior to graduation, I plan to match with and commit to and accredited residency program that aligns with my short and long term career goals! Upon graduation, I plan to begin my journey as a pharmacist, honing my patient care skills, refining my knowledge base, and eventually uncovering which speciality to pursue. At the moment, I am heavily interested in ambulatory care but am open to expanding my horizons with residency training and exposure.

What is a fun fact about you?

While I would not classify myself as a “sneakerhead”, I have a sizable collection of shoes! I almost have enough for each day of the month so you will almost never see me wear the same pair twice in a row!
