This is a headshot of Christopher R. Piszczatoski, PharmD, BCPS. He is in his white coat smiling with a coral colored tie.

The student had this to say about Dr. Piszczatoski:

Dr. Christopher Piszczatoski and his ambulatory care rotation I believe taught me the most as he is eager to teach in a way that is hands on but also self study allowing him to see how much work I also am putting in to learning. He gave constructive criticism that never felt harsh and also came from a place of wanting me to really understand.

Brief bio or Site description

Family Medicine clinics operating ambulatory care clinical pharmacy services via co-visit model with the provider staff. Patient encounters primarily include anticoagulation, high risk diabetes, weight management, CGM interpretation/analyses and polypharmacy management. We see roughly 3,200 patients/year, to the point our operational model is being duplicated and expanded further within the College of Medicine.

What is your or your sites philosophy on educating students and/or providing pharmacy services?
Woodshop Rules – I will overview concepts and teach practical skills once, after which students primarily learn by doing. Patients, like wood, are a forgiving medium for practice where there are quite a lot of quirks/uneven lines/knots to work around. You can read any book or listen to any lecture on the black-and-white, ideal way to practice pharmacy or medicine, but you need the repetition of patient encounters to fill in all the spaces to become an effective clinician.

What is a fun fact about you or the site?
Two things: I am a graduate, and consequently huge fan of, Auburn University. My office has a lot of Auburn memorabilia/decorations on that wall that I get away with since most people walk past a see a similar orange and blue (the better blue). I am also a giant Star Wars nerd with knickknacks in that realm making up the second half of my office decoration and my tattoos (one ship each for my wife, daughter and son).
