The student had this to say about Dr. Johnson:

Dr. Iwanyshyn and Dr. Johnson were fantastic preceptors. They made me genuinely excited to come to rotation everyday because their positivity and love of learning/teaching was just infectious. They made it a point to tailor my rotation to me to help me succeed in areas I needed extra support in. They treated me not just as a student, but as a resident and future colleague. I am incredibly impressed with just how much I got to learn and grow on this rotation all thanks to these incredible preceptors.

What is your or your sites philosophy on educating students and/or providing pharmacy services?
My philosophy in educating students is to create a fun, engaging, and supportive learning environment while encouraging accountability and clinical excellence. I enjoy challenging learners to understand the anatomy and physiology of surgical and trauma patients and to connect those principles with critical care pharmacotherapy. I strongly emphasize the multidisciplinary nature of the ICU and the important relationships between pharmacy and the broader healthcare team. Throughout the rotation, I focus on mentorship and increasing learner independence, encouraging students to think critically, participate actively on rounds, and make daily pharmacotherapy recommendations to build confidence. While critical care can feel intimidating at first, once foundational concepts are established, learners grow quickly. Watching that growth and helping learners develop into confident, independent clinicians is what excites me most about precepting.

What is a fun fact about you or the site?
I have spent 25 years at UF Health, beginning as a pharmacy technician during my undergraduate studies and later working as a pharmacy intern. Experiencing each stage along the way has shaped my career and perspective as a pharmacist.
