The preceptor had this to say about Ibna :
CIPPE
“Ibna went out of her way to assist a patient who’s insulin was delivered warm and claimed that her insulin was not cooled properly when it was sent by the delivery company. So Ibna had performed a service recovery by contacting the manufacturers for a quality concern and was able to find replacement product for the patient to use and continue her therapy, rectifying the situation. She also would regularly meet with Dr. Amofah, the chief clinical officer of CHI, and would discuss OTC products and medications with him. As a result, she will be having a presentation later on for the residents at CHI on OTC product recommendations. She will also be presenting on recommended vaccines for adults at our monthly Coumadin class.“
What was your favorite part of this rotation?
My favorite aspect was the unique interactions between providers and patients at the pharmacy. Being a closed pharmacy, most prescriptions came solely from the healthcare facility it was part of. This made it easy to make any changes—I’d simply walk to the provider’s location and discuss the adjustments directly. The pharmacy also organized the warfarin clinic, which allowed me to engage with many patients who were very knowledgeable about their medications.
What advice do you have for pharmacy students preparing for rotations?
To get ready for your rotation, it’s essential to stay open-minded and venture beyond your comfort zone. Don’t hesitate to ask plenty of questions and actively engage! Rotations offer a valuable chance to learn from mistakes before you become a licensed pharmacist. If you feel unsure about counseling or anything else, make sure to communicate with your preceptor, as managing patient health is a sensitive responsibility.
