Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital
Irene Capistrano, PharmD, BCCCP
The student had this to say about Dr. Capistrano:
“I want to recognize my preceptor Dr. Irene Capistrano because during my critical care rotation she was an amazing preceptor. She took the time to teach and explain concepts with great detail. She also prioritized my learning and challenged me to become a better student. Overall, I would do this rotation all over again because of how much I learned and grew as a pharmacy student.“

What is your or your sites philosophy on educating students and/or providing pharmacy services?
Irene believes we must continue to advocate for the profession of pharmacy by practicing at the top of our license. In order to do this, it is imperative we continue to build our knowledge so that we can effectively serve as the medication expert within our respective teams. While knowledge is important, one should also remember that soft skills are just as important- building trust and rapport will facilitate better communication and team work. Building knowledge base and rapport can start as early as student-level and students are encouraged to ask questions and be active participants in the care of their patients while on rotation.
