Jared Briones

The student had this to say about Dr. Briones:

As his first HIPPE student (and student overall), my preceptor has gone above and beyond in every possible way—setting a standard for clinical mentorship that is nothing short of extraordinary. He created a learning environment where I felt encouraged, supported, and inspired to grow beyond what I thought possible at this stage in my pharmacy education. He took the time to understand my interests and tailored my rotation accordingly—organizing opportunities for me to shadow in the Emergency Department and ICU, participate in multidisciplinary rounds, and get firsthand experience with real-time clinical decision-making. He didn’t limit me to observation. He entrusted me with reviewing patient profiles, running reports, and making interventions—including IV to PO conversions, renal dose adjustments, insulin regimen adjustments, and recommending empiric antibiotic choices based on infectious disease principles I had studied. When he recognized my eagerness to learn, he didn’t hold me back—he elevated me. He invited me into topic discussions, challenged me with cases outside of my comfort zone, and treated me like an advanced student. His thoughtful guidance pushed me to think critically, apply clinical reasoning, and engage in meaningful dialogue, even on topics I hadn’t formally learned in school yet. Walking into this rotation, I was fully committed to a career in community pharmacy. But because of his mentorship, I am now seriously considering pursuing a residency—something I never thought I would say. His impact on my professional path has been that profound. He exemplifies everything an outstanding preceptor should be: approachable, clinically sharp, adaptable, and deeply invested in the success of his students. For someone early in their own career, he has demonstrated the kind of leadership and passion that truly deserves recognition at the highest level.
