Dr. Patel is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the field. He took the time to teach us about different drugs and how they work, not just having us fill scripts or do basic tasks. He challenged us to think and be able to make different connections to what we have learned so far throughout the program.
Jay Patel is one of the smartest people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I have been fostered in a learning environment that has answered all questions I have and have been exposed to a preceptor with a very impressive knowledge base. Jay has a strong background in chemistry and can explain things to a level that stuns me. The practical knowledge I have learned here I will carry with me throughout my entire career.
My time at this rotation is one I will never forget. I had so many opportunities for growth. My preceptor was knowledgable about everything and answered every question I had thoroughly. The team there is great and embodies retail pharmacy and patient centered care.
Brief bio or Site description
Retail pharmacy, part of the CVS chain, located in the downtown Orlando area. We provide all services offered by a retail pharmacy including specialty medications. Our population base is diverse and varied giving good variety of disease states and therapies.
What is your or your sites philosophy on educating students and/or providing pharmacy services?
We at CVS 17440 consider it a privilege and an honor to host UFCOP pharmacy students and are well prepared to help them on their path to becoming trusted professional healthcare providers. I focus on discussing medications, pharmacology, therapeutics as well as general and internal medicine. The student is given ample time to learn, ask all and any questions and to gain a vast array of knowledge. We try to connect the dots between basic knowledge and education gained from UFCOP and try to pinpoint relevance of this information. Students get plenty of time to interact with the pharmacists and technicians as well as other healthcare professionals as well as patients.
What is a fun fact about you or the site?
We try new ways to make our site fun. Currently we have a points system based on Harry Potter houses.
