West Kendall Baptist Hospital
Jonathan St. Onge, PharmD, BCPS
The student had this to say about Dr. St. Onge:
“Dr. St. Onge was extremely supportive of students throughout the course of the rotation. He allowed us to stay on floors and be the face of the pharmacy for the floor we were assigned. We were given autonomy to make decisions on our own, bring them to him for approval, and gain feedback on our decision making skills. We gained knowledge and confidence in our own decision making skills and with Dr. St. Onge’s guidance, understood how to optimize our thought processes to make improved decisions in patient care. We got frequent interactions with patients, RNs, and MDs – with interactions occurring daily. When discussions on drug indications, mechanisms, therapeutic monitoring, etc., Dr. St. Onge asked guiding questions to ensure we had comprehensive knowledge of the therapy we were discussing. He got us involved in patient counseling, renal monitoring, insulin adjustments, vancomycin dosing and counseling, various types if TDM, and more. This experience was invaluable and Dr. St. Onge created an environment that promoted students and helped us to gain confidence in our skills.”

What is your or your sites philosophy on educating students and/or providing pharmacy services?
To meet the students where they’re at clinically, professionally and personally and tailor the learning experience to their needs. I try to push them to be one step better each day no matter where they are currently. I try to create an environment that is process vs result oriented with a focus on the effort a learner is making.
What is a fun fact about you or the site?
I am from Massachusetts and a Boston sports fan!
