The student had this to say about Dr. Briggs:
“Lauren created an exceptional learning environment at the women’s hospital. While everyone was beyond welcoming and supportive of my education, they still challenged me to expand my knowledge with unique women’s focused topic discussions and direct patient case applications. While on rotation, I was also given the opportunity to shadow NICU pharmacists and attend rounds in the NICU, providing a unique opportunity to explore two fields of pharmacy practice.”
Brief bio or Site description
I am a clinical pharmacist at St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of South Florida in 2010. I then went on to obtain my Doctor of Pharmacy degree at USF in 2016. I completed my PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital in 2017. During my residency year, I took a special interest in Women’s Health and accepted a position at the Women’s Hospital after graduation. I am now a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist and have a focus in the adult OB/GYN and NICU patient populations.
What is your or your sites philosophy on educating students and/or providing pharmacy services?
My philosophy on education aims to prepare students to become knowledgeable, compassionate, and skilled pharmacists ready to meet the challenges of real-world healthcare settings. My approach to training the next generation of pharmacists focuses on student-centered learning, evidence-based practice, problem solving, and lifelong learning. I believe in prioritizing the needs, interests, and learning styles of each student to foster engagement and motivation. I emphasize the importance of using current clinical guidelines to improve patient outcomes and encourage the development of critical thinking skills to make informed clinical decisions.
