APPE Rotation at Whiteriver Indian Hospital

“Achieving excellence in expanding pharmacist scope of practice.”

What was your favorite part of this rotation?

“Definitely the outreach initiative at Whiteriver. This hospital is known for its extensive community outreach from school vaccination visits, visits to the local Department of Corrections, and rigorous COVID contact tracing. Being able to participate in and see the direct public health impact that this initiative has on the Whiteriver community was absolutely incredible. It is thoroughly evident that the providers at Whiteriver deeply care about their patients, and as that care literally pours out into the community, an unmatched bond of mutual trust and respect between the healthcare providers and the members is formed.”

What advice do you have for pharmacy students preparing for rotations?

“You have the unique opportunity to constantly try new things, so take advantage of it and always put your best foot forward. If you find something you are interested in, reach out to people who can teach you more about it and pursue it wholeheartedly. There is no commitment at this time, but you never know what could come of it. Also, if you can, do this rotation!”

What are your plans after graduation?

“I am currently in the process of applying to the Indian Health Service Residency Program! My hope is to become a clinical pharmacist with the Indian Health Service.”

What is a fun fact about you?

“I am a huge Stephen King fan and have a checklist of all of his books that I am checking off one by one! Of course, I also watch all of the movies he has worked on, and IT Chapter Two is one of my favorite movies ever.”
