The preceptor had this to say about Madison:

HCA Florida North Florida Hospital Outpatient Retail Pharmacy

What a excellent student. Madison far exceeded my expectations. Madison is professional, hard working, a self starter, smart, and easy to work with. The pharmacy profession is in good hands with people like Madison. Excellent student!

What was your favorite part of this rotation?

My favorite part of this rotation was having the unique opportunity to observe how a community pharmacy operates, while also getting a small taste of the clinical aspect of pharmacy practice, all in one experience! One of my responsibilities included hand-delivering prescription medications to patients at their bedside before they were discharged from the hospital, through the outpatient pharmacy’s Meds-to-Beds program. Being able to interact with patients right before their discharge and getting to see the smiles on their faces as we ensure they are sent home with all the necessary medications was such a memorable part of this rotation that I am extremely grateful to have experienced.

What advice do you have for pharmacy students preparing for rotations?

My biggest piece of advice for pharmacy students getting ready to go on rotations is to never be afraid to ask questions, whether that be to your preceptor, or to any other member of the healthcare team that you encounter. These rotations are meant to be a learning experience, and showing up each day with a positive attitude and a genuine eagerness to learn will allow you to gain the most benefit from your rotation experience. Additionally, always have confidence in your knowledge and your capabilities, because you know more than you think you do!

What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation, I hope to find myself in an area of pharmacy that allows me to develop personal and meaningful relationships with each of my patients. Whether this be in a community pharmacy setting, or through more long-term care as a consultant pharmacist, above all, I strive to be a pharmacist who is dedicated to placing my patients’ values and preferences at the center of care while ensuring safe and effective use of medications.

What is a fun fact about you?

I was born on Thanksgiving Day, and this year is my golden birthday, which means I am turning 25 on the 25th of November!
