Megan Kranz

Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center

Megan Kranz, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCOP

The student had this to say about Dr. Kranz:

Dr. Kranz and her colleagues at BMDA were some of the friendliest, most knowledgeable, and inclusive people I’ve met while on my APPE rotations. Dr. Kranz demonstrated superior knowledge of hematology/oncology and the profession of pharmacy, but also was able to verbalize key learning principles when working up patients, clinical pearls, and education points to help me understand such complex disease states. I had the opportunity to build on my clinical skills, allowing me to practice at the highest level as a college of pharmacy student, educate other healthcare professionals on new FDA approvals, evaluate literature, coordinate patient education of IV/PO chemotherapy, and assist in pre-infusion chart preparation for those receiving systemic therapy and future plan builds. Dr. Kranz was kind, encouraging, and truly such a wonderful mentor throughout my time at BMDA and I hope to one day have the ability to precept future students as well as her!

Brief bio or Site description

GI/GU/Neuro/Sarcoma Clinical Oncology Specialist, PGY-2 Oncology Residency Program Director

What is your or your sites philosophy on educating students and/or providing pharmacy services?
I encourage students and residents to practice at the top of their scopes and to show the team how much of an asset we can be. I challenging learners to critically think through scenarios with patients and ways to think outside of the box in order to provide the best patient care and clinical support to our team. I encourage all learners to see more than just medical oncology while on rotation, since radiation and surgery play a huge role in treating oncology patients.

What is a fun fact about you or the site?
Pharmacists are imbedded in the medical oncology clinics and serve at the cornerstone for both infusion and clinics.
