Michelle Lee Preceptor

The student had this to say about Dr. Lee:

Michelle was simply an incredible preceptor. Even with her busy patient schedule, she always made time to teach me clinical pearls and instilled in me the confidence I needed prior to graduation. Her clinical knowledge was diverse and her ability to think on the spot to change patient’s medication regimens was inspiring. Ultimately, I hope every student has the opportunity to have a “Michelle Lee” as their preceptor.

Brief bio or Site description

I am an ambulatory care, also known as the Patient Care Aligned Team (PACT), clinical pharmacy practitioner at the Viera VA Outpatient Clinic. I received my Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Florida in 2016. I then completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency and a PGY-2 in Ambulatory Care with North Florida/South Georgia VA. After completing residency, my career as a PACT clinical pharmacist took me across the country to the VA Palo Alto from 2018 to 2021. Then it brought me back home to Florida to the Orlando VA where I became the first PACT clinical pharmacist at the new outpatient clinic in Palm Bay. After one year of establishing the Palm Bay Clinic, I transferred to the Viera Clinic.

What is your or your sites philosophy on educating students and/or providing pharmacy services?
Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) involves working together with healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to the Veteran population. It focuses on personalized care, improving access to care, and achieving coordinated care through collaboration. Our goal is to allow the pharmacy students to gain practical experience in managing various chronic disease states, including but not limited to, diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and COPD. Students have the opportunity to interview and assess patients, develop and implement clinical interventions, and apply their clinical skills through a multidisciplinary team practice. As PACT clinical pharmacy services continue to expand such as the recent addition of heart failure, alcohol use disorder and weight loss management, the students will also be able to expand their clinical skills in providing comprehensive care.

What is a fun fact about you or the site?
Our ambulatory care rotations not only include PACT but other specialities such as complex PACT, Geriatrics PACT, cardiology, anticoagulation and mental health.
