The preceptor had this to say about Orniel:
HIPPE Rotation at Arnold Palmer HIPPE Rotation
“(Student) and Orniel just completed their HIPPE rotations with me. They were enthusiastic in learning and their positive attitude was refreshing for a busy hospital pharmacy. They completed a presentation about dabigatran in pediatrics that was useful for the pharmacists and also wrote a new targeted drug review (TDR) to be used within Orlando Health.”
What was your favorite part of this rotation?
“I was amazed to experience the different areas where pediatric pharmacists can work as experts to achieve a care of excellence in the pediatric population. To shadow them, have topic discussions, and learn from a spectacular pharmacy team where their devotion to the profession was the result of their passion.”
What advice do you have for pharmacy students preparing for rotations?
“Students should go to rotations with an eagerness to learn. Curiosity should be the precursor that allows you to immerse yourself in an ocean of knowledge. Prepare for topic discussions and assignments to have good conversations and always think outside the box. Remember that everything you are learning is to impact patients’ lives.”
What are your plans after graduation?
“After graduation, I would like to continue a research career in precision medicine to achieve a care of excellence based on patients’ uniqueness. In addition to completing a PGY-1 and PGY-2.”
What is a fun fact about you?
“I am a musician, I play multiple instruments and currently I’m learning how to play El Cuatro, a Puerto Rican instrument.”
