I would like to nominate my CIPPE preceptor, Peter Aragones, PharmD, and the UF Health Leesburg Outpatient Pharmacy for providing exceptional experiential education and pharmacy services. Throughout my rotation, I was given the opportunity to actively engage in a variety of meaningful experiences beyond the typical retail pharmacy setting, including participating in the Meds to Bed services and discharge counseling programs. These hands-on opportunities allowed me to enhance my understanding of patient care and provided invaluable exposure to hospital-based pharmacy services. Dr. Aragones was an outstanding preceptor, consistently demonstrating a commitment to student learning and development. His teaching style was both patient and engaging, always taking the time to involve students in teaching moments and ensuring we understood the rationale behind our actions. He was also very supportive in giving us the chance to take on site-specific opportunities that were integral to our learning, such as interacting with patients during discharge counseling and collaborating with APPE students and PGY1 residents during their topic discussions. His dedication to fostering a comprehensive learning environment made a significant impact on my growth as a pharmacy student.
Brief bio or Site description
The outpatient pharmacy in Leesburg fills prescriptions for employees and inpatients at discharge. Our site is unique in that we work closely with Gatorcare and our PBM to develop and enforce plan design. Students have the opportunity to collaborate with various healthcare providers and other students at various points in their pharmacy school journeys.
What is your or your sites philosophy on educating students and/or providing pharmacy services?
Our site reinforces the strong mentorship benefits of working closely with pharmacists and healthcare providers in maximizing patient care.
What is a fun fact about you or the site?
The hospital first opened in 1963 and has been a center of care in Lake county for decades.
