The student had this to say about Dr. Reise:

“ Dr. Reise as well as the wonderful staff have provided me with such an incredible and unique experience which has broadened my view of pharmacy and strengthened my confidence as a soon-to-be provider. Dr. Reise along with everyone else at this site provided me with many different learning opportunities and ensured I learned as much as I desired. She is an excellent teacher/preceptor who facilitates a high level of learning and demonstrates a robust understanding of pharmacy services which she delivers for the many UF Health clinics she oversees with her fellows. I have undoubtedly walked away with a stronger foundation in the world of pharmacy, to which I owe thanks to all the amazing people I worked with during these 6 weeks.”

Brief bio or Site description

Dr. Reise is a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy. She also serves as Assistant Director of Pharmacy Services at the University of Florida Health Physicians (UFHP), as well as Director of the Fellowship in Healthcare Quality, Medication Safety, and Population Health. Her research interests include transitions of care, access to care, medication safety, and quality improvement. She is also involved with a number of projects aimed at improving quality within UFHP outpatient practices. UF Health Physicians, which includes the physician outpatient practices under the University of Florida College of Medicine, provides care for approximately 1 million patient visits per year in both primary and specialty care. Students on this rotation work from UF Health Professional Park to support the medication and vaccine-related needs of the 50+ practice sites from an operational, administrative, and regulatory perspective. Students have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and assignments, research questions that arise, and accompany Dr. Reise and/or her fellow to visit clinics for inspection.

What is your or your sites philosophy on educating students and/or providing pharmacy services?
The goal of this rotation is to have students understand the role of a Consultant Pharmacist, as well as to have the opportunity to learn from real-life questions and institutional initiatives that arise and require the support of Pharmacy Services. My teaching philosophy centers upon balancing support and challenge — giving students space to think critically and grow while ensuring they always feel supported throughout the process. I feel that this rotation offers a particularly unique experience because of the unique practice setting and role it provides, which is quite different from the typical roles of a pharmacist to which they’ve previously been exposed. Every student is different and has their own individual interests, so I try to tailor the rotation and adapt it to their strengths, while still making sure we are achieving everything that needs to be accomplished.

What is a fun fact about you or the site?
A particularly rewarding aspect of this site is the highly interdisciplinary team we have, which allows students to see the “behind the scenes” of supporting healthcare practices. Not only do we work with other healthcare professionals such as physicians, advance practice providers, and nurses, but also with organizational staff and leadership, who may also have backgrounds in business, administration, law, finance, informatics, or other areas of expertise. Everyone is amazingly supportive, and we all have the same end goal: improving lives with exceptional care that matters.
