The student had this to say about Dr. Keroles:

I would like to nominate my preceptor, Sandra, for providing truly exceptional experiential education. Throughout my rotation, she consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to teaching and student development by creating a supportive, respectful, and engaging learning environment. She went above and beyond to ensure that I was not only observing, but actively participating in patient care. Under her guidance, I was given meaningful opportunities to counsel patients, participate in the verification process under direct supervision, and apply clinical knowledge in real-world scenarios. She intentionally challenged me to think critically and provided constructive feedback that significantly strengthened my clinical decision-making and confidence. Although she knew that my primary interest is in hospital pharmacy, she still took the time to thoughtfully tailor the rotation to my interests while ensuring I gained a comprehensive understanding of community pharmacy. She made a deliberate effort to show me every aspect of the setting, helping me appreciate its clinical impact and relevance to my future practice. In addition to clinical training, she exposed me to the full scope of her role as a pharmacy manager, allowing me to better understand workflow, leadership, and operational responsibilities within community pharmacy. Her ability to balance patient care, management duties, and teaching is truly commendable. What sets her apart is her kindness, patience, and genuine investment in her students’ success. She is consistently approachable, respectful, and enthusiastic about teaching, which made a lasting impact on my learning experience. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to learn from her, and I strongly believe she exemplifies excellence in both pharmacy practice and experiential education.

Brief bio or Site description

Hi, my name is Sandra, and I am a Pharmacy Manager in community pharmacy practice at Walmart Pharmacy with a strong passion for building high-performing teams and developing future pharmacists. My site provides comprehensive patient care services, including immunizations, medication therapy management, point-of-care testing, and Test-to-Treat services. We are committed to delivering safe, efficient, and patient-centered care while creating a supportive learning environment where students actively participate in clinical decision-making, workflow management, and patient communication. My goal as a preceptor is to help students build confidence, think critically, and successfully apply their clinical knowledge in real-world practice.

What is your or your sites philosophy on educating students and/or providing pharmacy services?
My philosophy is to teach students how to think, not just what to do. I encourage them to rely on evidence, policy, and sound clinical judgment while always keeping the patient at the center of every decision. Students at our site are treated as valued members of the team and are given meaningful responsibilities in patient care and problem-solving. We focus on professionalism, accountability, and adaptability so they leave the rotation prepared to practice safely, confidently, and independently.

What is a fun fact about you or the site?
A fact about our site is that we truly operate as a teaching culture. Our certified immunizing pharmacy technicians started with no pharmacy background, completed their training, and grew into nationally certified, CPR-certified, and active immunizers. We take pride in developing people, and many of our students leave the rotation more confident in their skills and excited about the impact they can make in patient care.
