Tchialann Boss

The student had this to say about Dr. Boss:

I’d like to nominate my preceptor for providing truly exceptional experiential education. From day one, they created a supportive learning environment where I felt welcomed, challenged, and encouraged to grow. They took the time to explain clinical decisions, involved me in patient care, and made sure I got hands-on experience in all aspects of the pharmacy. Their dedication to teaching and passion for pharmacy made this rotation one of the most valuable parts of my education so far.

“I am nominating Dr. Boss because he profoundly impacted my CIPPE experience. During my rotation, he challenged me to think critically in order to independently reach clinical conclusions. He questioned me in ways that guided me to the correct answers instead of simply giving me answers. He gave me valuable, constructive criticism and feedback that allowed me to strengthen my skills and build my confidence. From the very beginning, Dr. Boss made my rotation into an engaging, high-yield learning environment with guidance every step of the way.   Dr. Boss is great at everything he does. He’s an excellent pharmacist who’s extremely knowledgeable about everything. He’s very passionate and truly wants to share his knowledge and teach students. I could tell he actually cares about my growth as a student pharmacist. Dr. Boss made me feel comfortable with not knowing everything. Every time he asked a question, he was very supportive and wanted me to be confident in my answers. However, he allowed me to answer without fear of judgement if I answered incorrectly. Instead he took it as an opportunity to teach me. From simple patient interactions to discussing complex medication regimen issues, Dr. Boss took every opportunity to create a teaching moment.   Dr. Boss showed me how difficult concepts from the curriculum are applied in real time to patients and gave me several opportunities to develop and strengthen these skills. Dr. Boss also boosted my confidence as I went from observing him do everything to independently completing tasks on my own.   Dr. Boss, in every sense, embodies the kind of pharmacist I aspire to become in the future. He’s knowledgeable, passionate, and most importantly, patient centered. His dedication to his profession helped strengthen my skills and has shaped the standard of pharmacy practice that I aspire to achieve.”

Brief bio or Site description

I strive to have a positive impact on all the pharmacy interns who have a rotation with me by being a positive and influential role model. Working in the community pharmacy setting is not a job for me. It is an opportunity for me to serve a greater purpose, which is to help others get and live well. It is also rewarding to invest in future pharmacists as my preceptors did for me. I make it my mission not to use my interns as free labor. They all will have the opportunity to learn what it takes to be a caring pharmacist and how to run a successful community pharmacy. Although this site is fast-paced, I always make time to teach the students and help them think critically by applying their didactic learning to real-world experiences. While I enjoy teaching, I also learn a lot from my students. Having many students who learn differently helps me think differently to adapt to their way of learning in order to help them grasp the materials. After completing their rotation with me, all of my interns can counsel customers regarding self-care management and when to seek medical attention. If a student wants to have a great impact on the lives of others while matriculating through the pharmacy program, this site truly allows them this chance while helping them to be more confident and feel better about future rotations. I am honored to be nominated and have the opportunity to impact the lives of many pharmacy students.

What is your or your sites philosophy on educating students and/or providing pharmacy services?
Every student who comes to this site is here to learn and not replacing my staff. I make it my mission to teach them according to the syllabus.

What is a fun fact about you or the site?
This site is run by a well-rounded preceptor who enjoys teaching and has been doing it for a while. Students will have an opportunity to be introduced to many patients’ demographics while learning to serve them all accordingly.
